About Utopi

Building performance made simple. Utopi simplify the complexities of data acquisition and ESG reporting to decarbonise the multi-tenant real estate sector, for the benefit of people, planet, and profit. Whether it be Performance Reporting, Automated Temperature Control or Empowering Residents to change their behaviours, Utopi offer an Impact Toolkit that will suit your requirement. New Build or Retrofit, we have a validated 9x ROI.

Challenges

А Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) was a two-building complex equipped with radiators that required optimization to reduce energy waste. The two buildings, which have 578 rooms, needed precise room-by-room temperature control and optimization of the gas consumption for the radiators. Energy was being wasted due to unregulated ventilation, heating of unoccupied spaces, and other inefficiencies. PBSA was searching for a solution that didn’t require extensive renovation yet offered rapid retrofitting.

Solution

The energy project carried out by Utopi was rolled out in March 2024 and consisted of 1379 Vicki LoRaWAN® Smart Radiator Thermostats that were installed in each room in order to control the temperature according to the individual needs of the occupants. The Vicki radiator thermostats together with the Utopi Platform that was used allowed schedule creation, maintained stable temperature levels, and were used based on the occupancy of the rooms and the needs of the inhabitants. A schedule was applied where the temperature was set to a maximum of 23 degrees with automatic step downs to 18 degrees after 24 hours and 7 degrees after 36 hours. The overheated rooms in the first building dropped from 12% to 3% and in the other building from 61% to 33%, achieving temperature reduction of 75% accordingly in the first building and 46% in the second building.

All the implemented innovations resulted in improved the building's carbon footprint, simplified sustainability reporting, and achieved fats return on investment (ROI).

Recommended products

MClimate Wireless Thermostat LoRaWAN®

MClimate Wireless Thermostat is a stand-alone thermostat powered entirely by solar energy using an organic solar panel. The device features a 2.9" e-ink screen, sensor for movement (PIR), temperature and humidity sensor, LUX sensor and 3 buttons. The user can change the target temperature and see current indoor conditions. The device sends an uplink after any event as well as periodically.

MClimate CO2 Display lite LoRaWAN®

The MClimate CO2 Display lite is equipped with temperature and humidity sensor, LUX sensor and NDIR CO2 sensor. Featuring 1.54" e-ink screen the device is showing the current levels of CO2 as well as historical trends. The data from the CO2 Display lite can be used in any LoRaWAN® compatible system, incl. Building Management Systems to control demand-based ventilation. Sensor information can be exposed

MClimate Vicki Anti-vandal protective case

Protect your Vicki from tampering, vandalism and theft with our robust anti-vandal cover.
