About SCHOTT Suisse SA
SCHOTT is a global technology and materials group driven by a “can-do” spirit and shared responsibility to achieve the impossible. As a foundation company, it embeds scientific research, societal impact, and environmental stewardship into its core. With 17,100 employees across 30+ countries, SCHOTT partners with high-tech industries—from healthcare and consumer electronics to semiconductors and aerospace—delivering innovative solutions that turn visions into reality.
Challenges
SCHOTT has invested millions in its production facilities to achieve manufacturing excellence. At its Yverdon factory, high-value machinery crucial to core processes is housed across multiple rooms, all cooled by water-cooled heat exchangers. To prevent costly water damage and respond immediately to unforeseen leaks, the company needed to implement a solution for continuous, 24/7 flood detection.
Solution
SCHOTT deployed 16 MClimate Flood Sensor LoRaWAN® units around its water-cooled heat exchangers to establish a proactive flood-alerting. Each device has a 3-pin flood sensor at the bottom which immediately sends notifications to the BMS or IoT Platform if water makes contact with all three pins, signaling a flood event within seconds. With a built-in buzzer alarm and push notifications, the MClimate Flood Sensors provided SCHOTT with real-time alerts, ensuring the management was notified with email and/or SMS and push notifications. Designed for multiple uses, the devices feature a rubber seal that prevents water from entering the plastic casing, allowing them to float when submerged and maintain full functionality. The MClimate Flood Sensor also includes an anti-tamper button, which enables SCHOTT to detect any interference and send instant uplink notifications ensuring the devices are safe against potential threats. Leveraging LoRaWAN technology, the Flood sensors offer highly energy-efficient battery consumption, with a lifespan of up to 10 years, depending on the selected settings.
The MClimate Flood solution enabled SCHOTT management to anticipate needs, reduce risks, and optimize efficiency. Â
